Ingredients
  

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of Shivtara Sooji
  • ½ cup of moong dal
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • 1 tsp of black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp of Cumin/Jeera
  • ¼ cup + 2 tbsp of ghee
  • ¼ tsp of hing
  • 10-12 cashew nuts halved
  • A few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

Method:

  • Cook the moong dal with 1.5 cups water until mushy and soft in the pressure cooker.
  • Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan and add the pepper and jeera along with cashew nuts. Roast until the cashew nuts turn a golden brown and then add the Shivtara Sooji.
  • Roast on low fire for about 5 mins until Shivtara Sooji begins to turn golden brown.
  • Add the salt and hing. Mix well.
  • Next, add the cooked moong dal. Mix well and cook on a low flame.
  • Boil 2 1/2 cups of water and add the boiling water to the Sooji-moong dal mixture and mix well.
  • Next add the ¼ cup ghee.
  • Keep stirring until you see the mixture thicken and leave the sides of the pan.
  • Your Home style Sooji pongal is done. Serve hot with sambar & chutney
